Forecast Snow in Toronto

Forecast Snow in Toronto is based on an actual weather diagram from the daily newspaper.  I loved the way the different lines swirl in and out and liked to imagine the actual terrain below the weather symbols.   The quilt was made some time ago but never posted to this blog.  All commercial cotton fabrics.  Machine pieced and appliqué and hand quilted.

26" x 48"

Ptolemaic System

The Ptolemaic System describes the universe exactly as it appears in the night sky with the earth at the centre of the universe.  The quilt is based on some very old illustrations of this ancient system.  Machine appliqued with sashiko stitching.

Commercial cottons and chiffon,  no batting.

37" x 17.5"

Gravity

This quilt is inspired by the science of gravity.

Commercial fabrics.   24" x 30"

Chevron Improv

Chevron Improv is another design inspired by the book:  Improv Handbook for Modern Quilters by Sherri Lynn Wood.   Made of commercial cotton fabric.

40" x 43"

A Line in 2020

A Line in 2020 refers to the point of time in March of the year 2020 when much of the western world shut down due to the covid pandemic.   This graph from which this quilt is based expresses the amount of industrial activity during any point in time.   The shut down caused the colours to change from bright warm colours (active periods)  mixed with blue colours (down times) to mostly blues.

35" x 34",  hand quilted

Japanese X + # 2

Japanese X + is one of my favourite patterns.   This one is made up of commercial cottons, most of which are printed with birds.    Both photos are details of the quilt.

74" x 84", machine quilted by Deb Kopeschny

X Plus Triangles

X Plus Triangles is made up of the leftover commercial cotton triangular pieces from the creation of Japanese X Plus #2 Quilt.  I decided to add in some joining fabric in contrasting blue near the top of the piece.  Sort of a nod to the Japanese boro technique of making mending fabric stand out.

36" x 35",  hand quilted

Up Up and Away

This piece is made up of pieced or appliqué commercial cottons and dotted with a few beads.

Treat Bags

These small bags are a traditional Japanese craft made from a book called Omiyage by Kumko Sudo.

The top bag is about 6" long and the bottom one is 10" or so.
